ALDRYNGTON PRIMARY SCHOOL’S HARVEST FESTIVAL

Aldryngton Primary School

Starving children in Africa will be able to enjoy plenty of food thanks to the generosity of pupils at Aldryngton Primary School in Silverdale Road, Earley. Youngsters kindly donated packs of food to help support Feed The Children (UK) and the Churches in Reading Drop-in Centre. They handed over the goods at a special harvest assembly where they heard about the work of both good causes on Tuesday, October 15.

The children proudly showed pictures of combine harvesters and spoke about what it would be like to be hungry and homeless.

Headteacher Elaine Stewart said, “Feed the Children is one of our local charities and the staff and children really appreciate what they are doing around the world. As children’s charity it really hits home with them and makes them realise how much they take for granted and how lucky they are.

“At school the children have been focussing on what it’s like to be hungry and homeless and it has really opened their eyes. We can always rely on parents support to send in a good amount of food and everyone has been very keen to help,” says Elaine.

Twyford-based Feed the Children will be sending its share of the goods to feed people at a number of the charity’s projects in Africa and other third world countries.

Brian Main, chief executive for Feed the Children, said, “Many children and their families will receive the benefit of these generous goods and appreciate not just the food but the nutrition it provides. “It is great that children in this country show so much care for those in abject poverty in other parts of the world, and we are very thankful for all their efforts and hard work,” continued Brian.
