GROCERIES DONATED TO FEED THE CHILDREN (UK) HELPS LADIES LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP FIT
A fantastic 64 stone and 7lbs of non-perishable groceries have been donated to Feed The Children (UK) as part of a novel membership drive by Curves Gyms in Hall Green and Bromsgrove. Owner, David Yli-Juuti, decided to waive the new member signing up fee to his ladies gym clubs in Bromsgrove and Hall Green in return for a donation of a bag of non-perishable groceries to Feed The Children.
The scheme proved a huge success all round and this week manager Lisa Yli-Juuti handed over the groceries to Joy Cartwright, regional fundraiser for Feed The Children in the West Midlands.
“We thought this was an unusual way to fundraise for Feed The Children,” says Lisa. “In return for waiving the joining fee, new members were asked to donate a bag of non-perishable groceries instead. The food will now be shipped out to the communities that Feed The Children serves. In Africa it costs just 17p to feed a child a day or £5 a month and so this food will go a long way to meet Feed The Children’s targets.”
Says fundraising manager Joy Cartwright, “We rely on local organisations and companies to support the work of the Feed The Children and it is great to be involved with such innovative ideas to support our quest for funds.”
