Wonderful Feed The Children (UK) Volunteers
Battle through the Storms and raise £400

When Feed The Children (UK) regional manager, Gill Edwards, booked a place at the recent Celtic Winter Fayre in Llandudno she had no idea what the elements would have in store. Although prepared for it to be a little cold, as it was an outdoor event held in November, no one could have foreseen the torrential rain and gale force winds that battered the coastal resort throughout the whole five days of the event.
“We took a stall to help raise our profile in North Wales’, said Gill, ‘’and I had the promise of help from a group of volunteers. They were recruited and co-ordinated by Jane Bloomfield from Old Colwyn English Baptist Church, which has become a collection centre for us, and their help was greatly appreciated.
“Each day, come rain, wind or the one welcome bit of sunshine, these wonderful ladies turned out to help run the stall and give me a much needed break. These stalwart volunteers helped to promote the charity’s vital work with vulnerable children, sold our Christmas Cards, and beautiful hand-made African Jewellery made by some of the disabled young people we look after, together with other donated goods, including some lovely cards made by Jane herself,” continued Gill.
“Their smiling faces and ability to engage the public in conversation worked wonders and over the 5 days they raised almost £400 in funds to support our various projects. They also made many new contacts with people from the whole of North Wales and beyond, which have already resulted in at least one definite booking with a group for a presentation on our work, with others checking their diaries.
“I really couldn’t have done it without them, their help each day was invaluable as it allowed me to take a break, restock items and generally warm up!” Gill reminisced. “That was so necessary as we were housed in an open- fronted wooden cabin with no heat. Although sturdy enough to withstand most of what the weather threw at us, it was obviously a case of wearing lots of layers of clothing and drinking gallons of hot chocolate in order to keep warm. So every day I was delighted to see them arrive, and not a little astonished at their dedication and commitment.”
