NICHOLAS SAYS GOODBYE TO HIS DREADLOCKS

After seven years without a haircut, 25-year-old Hitachi Capital marketing executive, Nicholas Walker, originally from Trinidad and Tobago but now living in Reading, is saying goodbye to his wonderful dreadlocks - all for a good cause. At 1.30pm on Easter Sunday Nicholas will sit in the barber’s chair at Déjà vu Barbering Salon, 359 Oxford Road, Reading and watch with his friends as his treasured locks fall to the floor one by one, each one raising precious funds in the process for Feed The Children (UK), the charity that helps children in abject poverty around the world.

“I am doing this for my lovely mother,” says Nicholas. “She is the most selfless and loving woman I know. Once, a year, virtually every year for more than 30 years, she has hosted a giving event. In earlier years she would invite neighbourhood children, stranger or friend, to eat at her house before sending them away with goodie bags filled with snacks, toys and sweets.

“When circumstances changed she downsized and instead of hosting the event at home she would walk the streets distributing bags to children. I am doing this to remind her to hold her head high despite her current circumstances and to convey her goodie bags to a few vulnerable children that will be reached through the fantastic work of Feed The Children (UK),” adds Nicholas.
