KAMILLOSAN DONATION HELPS UGANDAN CHILDREN
Kamillosan, the mother and baby brand which has been trusted and recommended by mothers and midwives for 75 years, is donating 6 million tablets of the anti-diarrhoea medication Dymotil to UK charity Feed The Children UK to help children in Uganda.
Dymotil is licensed in the UK as an OTC medicine and is recommended by pharmacists to help treat acute and severe cases of diarrhoea. Left untreated, diarrhoea can cause fatal dehydration and is one of the most common, easily treatable causes of childhood mortality in developing countries.
Homelessness, poverty and disease are rife in Uganda due to armed conflicts, disease, inadequate health services and an ailing economy. One of the most basic issues facing Ugandans is a lack of safe, clean drinking water and severe diarrhea often results as people resort to drinking water from contaminated sources due to a lack of other options. Children in particular are at risk from contaminated water.
Kamillosan product manager explains the decision to help:
“Feed The Children UK charity has drilled 12 boreholes to provide safe clean drinking water but still need medication for the thousands of people who must drink water from contaminated sources. We are delighted to be able to donate products to such a worthwhile cause”.
"It is wonderful to receive such generous support from a brand such as Kamillosan to help us with our work in Uganda," says Feed The Children's Chief Executive, Brian Main. "Over 6,000,000 tablets will help relieve the suffering of over 300,000 people and give them a real chance to improve their lives."
Feed The Children UK is an independent charity focusing on vulnerable children, suffering the effects of poverty, especially those who have been orphaned or abandoned. For more information visit www.feedthechildren.org.uk.
The charity works worldwide to develop sustainable communities and provide food and other necessities for children and their families in great need. By responding to disasters as they occur the charity helps to relieve poverty, particularly in Africa where sickness is endemic.
