Give a child hope this Christmas - support Feed The Children UK

A star is a powerful symbol. In the Christmas story, the wise men followed a star to find the infant Jesus. The star symbolises the hope that shines, even over a situation of poverty and homelessness; the hope that comes to desperate people when they realise they have not been forgotten.

Can you bring hope to a suffering child this Christmas?

Our Christmas resource pack tells the story of nine-year-old Hanna, who was homeless, hungry and at risk of exploitation until Feed The Children found her.

You will also find ideas for fun, reflection and fundraising, suitable for groups, churches, schools and individuals. Try our delicious gingerbread star cookies, Christmas ornaments made from recycled or natural materials, and other star-related ideas.

The pack also includes a paper star and donation form; simply decorate, or add a greeting to the star and send in with your donation. All stars returned will be sent to one of our overseas programmes in a box of aid, passing your good wishes on to the people who receive your help.

Gathering Winter Fuel -

Christmas 2007 campaign

Our Christmas 2007 resources focused on the need for sustainable fuel - where people depend on wood for cooking and warmth, trees can become scarce.

You can support our education programmes at any time of year; click here to make an online donation, or register at our online shop to receive updates by email.

Gathering winter fuel Xmas pack

Feed The Children is supporting struggling communities in Kenya, Angola, Liberia, Malawi and Uganda.  We provide food, blankets, and other essential items to help families immediately.

We believe the long term future lies in helping people to help themselves.  Education of the children is key to breaking out of the poverty trap.

Pupils take charge of the saplings they will plant and care for

These children in Uganda are learning to plant trees, nurture them, and take a simple message home to their parents; if you cut down a tree, plant two more.

In rural areas where 80% of the people depend on wood for fuel, our tree nursery programme is helping provide fruit as well as firewood; and the children are leading the way.

Woman demonstrates mud stove

A simple stove like this, made from the most basic local material - mud - helps make the most of fuel resources.  This kind of stove can heat two pots, but uses less than half the amount of wood as a traditional fire.  Wood smoke used to fill this house, creating a hazard for eyes, skin and lungs.  Now, the chimney takes the smoke safely away.

Feed The Children trains women to teach community groups in the construction of energy saving stoves, nutrition and cooking techniques.

Can you give a gift of skills?

Please support our education campaigns by sending goods from the list below, or cash donations to meet the transport costs.

A child who can read, write and do basic sums will find it easier to find a job, or can move on to further training.  He or she can access the information needed to make informed choices for themselves, and later on, will make better choices for their own children.

Adults who can attend one of our community groups can learn to manage their fuel supplies, plant new trees and build energy saving stoves.

Items needed to support environmental education for adults and children

ballpoint pens, pencils, colouring pencils, wax crayons, erasers, pencil sharpeners, chalk

We are grateful for cash donations along with your goods; it costs between £2000 and £5000 to transport each 26-tonne shipping container to an African country.  A donation of, say, £1 or £2 per carrier bag of goods donated will help us meet these costs.
